4 Things You Should Know...

Stubble represents the best of both worlds in a man: evident masculinity without the reclusive mountain-man look. What do you really know about the facial scruff that greets you each morning in the mirror?  Here are four things you should know about stubble:

  1. The Average Guy Spends 140 Days Removing Stubble In A Lifetime
The first thing you should know is just how much of your life you will eventually devote to it.  According to one estimate, the average man will spend over 3,300 hours of his life in devotion to taming the stubble on his face.

  2. Women Prefer Stubble
Another thing you should know about stubble is that women like it - at least they like the look of it. According to a widely cited study by psychologists at England's Northumbria University, women looking at photos of men’s faces in various phases of hair growth from none at all to full beards, preferred the look of some stubble.

  3. Stubble Can Square A Man's Jaw
Stubble squares a man's jaw, superficially strengthening his jawline and giving him a more masculine look. This stereotypically communicates manliness and maturity, but facial hair also allowed our ancestors to project a more dominant, aggressive and threatening image toward other males.

  4. Stubble Has Been Banned From Some Workplaces
The last thing men should know about stubble is the trouble into which it has gotten other men, namely at work.  When singer George Michael and actor Don Johnson began sporting designer stubble in the 1980s, other men naturally saw fit to mimic the look.  The look was considered disrespectful in many circles. Some workplaces instituted outright bans and reportedly handed offending employees a razor and sent them home.
